Training for me has slowed down considerably this past week after Election Day as shin-splints have become an issue. Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday runs may be replaced with my attempt to use that Gym I keep paying for - more regularly. I hear the stairmaster and the treadmill as a high incline is JUST like treking up Mt. Kilimanjaro! :)

Hi Doria, you probably already know that shin splints are caused by running too many miles when the muscles/bones aren't ready for it.
When I have had shin splints I treat the symptoms with ice and stretching after each run, even if they haven't hurt. I rarely use Tylenol/NSAIDs for shins.
The permanent fix is to back off the weekly mileage by half for a week (two if really bad), then ease back into it. Muscles and bones should be good to go in three to five weeks
