Slowly but surely....

Thank you to my sister Jamie and her fiance Erich for getting me an REI gift card for Christmas! I was able to get measured for a day pack to find just the right fit (pictured), and pick out my hiking boots - two things down! Many more things to go....

So how is training going you might ask? Well...see the title of my blog post? I recently quit my gym - which I know what many of you are thinking - why is she quitting her gym when she is supposed to be training? I figure I can train in many other ways - run outside, save up for a road bike, use the local YMCA when I want to start swimming, and use the money I would have used at the gym to save for my flight, gear, and other things I will need for the trek. I am preparing for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in April - which will be the longest run I have ever tried to do. I have never really enjoyed distance running, so getting into that habit is going to be interesting!

More updates - Liz planned a lovely Safari and beach trip when we finish our trek with Clayton and Elise - we can't wait! Recently we all got together to discuss plans and preparation, and we all discovered that Elise has never slept in a tent before - I am looking forward to this more than ever now!

The Kilimanjaro Ladies 2nd Fundraising Event will take place on Thursday, February 19th at 6pm in Arlington, VA at Ragtime. We hope to see many of you there! Thanks again to everyone for all of your support.
