I am encouraged and inspired by the generosity of both Doria's and my friends and family over the past few months. So far, D and I have raised a combined $4500 towards our goals! We still have a long way to go but there is no doubt that the monies raised are much appreciated by the Voluntary Services Overseas. If you haven't already done so, please consider donating to either Doria or myself - doesn't matter which - the funds go to the same place!
In this trying economic time, it's really cool to see how the people I surround myself with have focused on our community and communities all over the world. It really doesn't take much to make a big difference. I have friends who are raising money for Crohn's Disease research, Brain Cancer research, Leukemia and Lymphoma (Go Nadine!), as well as donating time and energy to local projects - DC Serve-a-thon here we come!
Another really cool event that's coming up in June is being organized by one of my best friends - the National MS Society Tour De Vine in Charlottesville, VA. If you're interested in donating or joining a team, check out the web site. I'll be there volunteering and cheering on the riders!
The other component to prep for this challenge is training - this is not a small feat, Doria and I are climbing a mountain that is 19,300 feet, a mountain whose height is equivalent to a 1685 story building or 16 Empire State buildings? Through the winter, I've been running, using the stair stepper, and attempting to get into Pilates. Now that it's getting warmer, I'll be heading up to the mountains to break in my new boots! If you want to join, let me know!
Thanks again for all your support!
